Introduction

Biotara is a B2B startup that empowers cosmetic brands with Amazonian ingredients. I was brought on as the lead web designer to overhaul Biotara’s website during a complete rebrand. I had an extremely tight timeline of just two weeks to take the new brand live online.

Collaborating with an external branding agency working on Biotara’s new identity, I needed to translate the brand’s story into a compelling web experience fast. The context demanded agility and creative focus. There was no luxury of months-long development, so every day (and hour) counted in making the vision a reality.

Description

Conceptual Thinking

From the start, I approached Biotara’s site as a storytelling challenge. Biotara’s mission is to elevate skincare sustainability by sourcing rare Amazonian botanicals in an ethical way. The site needed to resonate on both an emotional and practical level.

I framed the website’s structure around a clear story arc. First, grab attention with Biotara’s purpose. For example, an impactful hero section introducing their motto of “Powering Regenerative Beauty” and the vibrant rainforest context. Next, guiding the visitor to discover the product offerings: Biotara’s “Magic 8” botanicals each with unique benefits.

By conceptualizing the site as a journey from ethos to product to engagement, I ensured that each section told part of the brand story while also addressing the information needs of a B2B customer. This approach set the foundation for all design decisions to come.

Process & Execution

I kicked off by aligning with BioTara’s branding agency to understand the new direction and gather available assets. With some elements still in progress, I mapped out the site using wireframes based on our storytelling goals, then designed high-fidelity mockups for key pages.

Staying in close contact with all stakeholders, I flagged missing content early, drafted placeholders, and kept an agile feedback loop to quickly adapt to last-minute changes.

I had integrated all critical content by the middle of the second week and spent the latter half on polishes: testing responsiveness on different devices, fixing any bugs, and doing a rapid QA pass. By the end of Week 2, I connected the site to Biotara’s domain and launched on schedule.

In just 14 days, we went from blank canvas to a fully designed, content-rich, and live website.

Reflection

Designing under such intense time pressure was challenging, fun, and ultimately deeply rewarding. Biotara’s CEO, John Goedschalk, was thrilled with the result, and seeing his vision come to life so quickly was a proud moment.

This project pushed me to be both decisive and creative. I learned how to prioritize what matters most, stay pragmatic, and maintain quality without getting lost in perfectionism.

If given more time, there’s plenty I’d love to build on. For example, the “Magic 8” pages with deeper storytelling and visuals, adding a blog for Biotara to share updates, and run user testing to refine the UX and surface key info more effectively.

In the end, this sprint showed what’s possible when creativity meets urgency. It’s a piece I’m especially proud of, not just for what I built, but for how it was built it: fast, focused, and full of purpose.
